Members' Tour: Decorative Arts that Dazzle: The newly re-opened Gilbert Collection Galleries
Join V&A guide Miriam Lemer for an exploration of the V&A's decorative arts on this Members' only tour.
A tour through the marvellous new presentation of the Gilbert Collection provides an opportunity to see examples of the finest European craftsmanship; gorgeous mosaics that can be mistaken for paintings; gold boxes ingeniously fashioned using exquisite materials; delicate portrait miniatures in enamel; masterly silver from the monumental to a novelty nutmeg grater.
There will be stories; some charming, some heart wrenching. The tour will reveal some of the ideas which informed the thinking of two of the greatest twentieth century collectors of the decorative arts. It will explore the techniques that enchanted the collectors and the journeys that the objects have taken.
Tour end times are approximate and may vary to what is shown. Optional light refreshments will be served after the tour in the Members' Restaurant.
