The V&A shop is proud to showcase a limited suite of contemporary earthenware by Japanese ceramics artist, Keochiro Inoue. Here his signature stylised forms decorate the traditional form of a 'soba choko' cup, made originally for spices, and in use on modern tables for dipping sauces, sake or Japanese tea. Handmade details are unique to each piece.
Kenichiro Inoue has worked in Kasama, Japan, since 1984. He bases his work on a dedication to vivid pattern; boldly painted fish and flowers stand out across the surface of this hand-painted pottery, rendered in ash glaze, black glaze and white slip. His skilfully made ceramics have received recognition in Japan and overseas, but he remains a cheerful fixture of the local ceramic scene in Kasama.
