The V&A shop is proud to showcase a limited suite of contemporary stoneware by Japanese ceramics artist, Hiroyuki Ōnuki. This elegant lidded pot with sweeping graphic markmaking detail makes a beautiful ornament, capturing the fleeting moment of a brush in motion, with 'wabisabi' style artistry.
Of course, it's also perfect as a functional storage container for trinkets and treasures. Hand wash with care to preserve and enjoy a special piece for years to come.
A potter in Kasama since 1995, Hiroyuki Ōnuki was a graphic designer for Japan’s booming commercial sector in the 1980s before becoming a potter in Kasama in 1995. His patterns are achieved by direct painting, and the zōgan technique of slip inlay. Much of Ōnuki’s work is based on hand-drawn Japanese artistic motifs, recalling the tradition of calligraphy.
