Details

Wonder at the towering spires and arcing domes of the façade of the Hagia Sophia with this captivating magnet. The original lithograph print by Gaspare Fossati was published in 1852 and can be seen on display in the Constantinople to Istanbul: One City, Two Empires exhibition. Created exclusively for the V&A, the palm-sized magnet is made using responsibly sourced paper.

Gaspare Fossati and his brother Giuseppe were commissioned in 1847-9 by Sultan Abdul Mecit I to carry out restoration work on the domes and mosaics of the Hagia Sophia. Fossati collaborated with German artist Alexius Geyer to create a series of studies of the building, later published as hand-coloured lithographs in London.
