An immaculate example of a historic aesthetic language, this beautiful magnet will make a delightful and colourful addition to your home. Originally part of the Çinili hamam, or tiled bathhouse, in Istanbul, the exquisite tile was created in Iznik in the 1530s and can be seen on display in the Constantinople to Istanbul: One City, Two Empires exhibition. Created exclusively for the V&A, the palm-sized magnet is made using responsibly sourced paper.
The Çinili hamam was designed by the famous court architect, Sinan, in the 16th century, and the ornate Iznik tiles decorating the building relate to those created for the imperial palace in the same period. Iznik pottery refers to glazed ceramics produced primarily in Iznik in Anatolia. The practice is known for its meticulous underglaze decoration technique and luminous colour palette of vibrant blues, greens and reds.
