Two tastemakers lead the winter issue of V&A Magazine, which marks the opening of Marie Antoinette Style at V&A South Kensington and the David Bowie Centre at V&A East Storehouse.
Bringing to life the most fashionable queen in history, Sarah Bailey speaks to designer Manolo Blahnik and the Oscar-winning costume designer Milena Canonero about creating the looks for Sofia Coppola’s cult film Marie Antoinette, and Elfreda Pownall takes readers inside an ornamented panelled room designed by the decorators of Versailles.
The producer and lead singer of Chic, Nile Rodgers, and the British art pop band The Last Dinner Party reflect on Bowie’s creative genius and gems from his archive; plus the sculptor Emily Young finds new forms working with ancient rock, Poland’s Soviet-era posters inspire a new generation of graphic design stars and a curator researches the 17th-century apothecary and amateur painter, “Dr Death”.
