Pretty as a peach, this playful decoration will lend a nostalgic charm to your Christmas tree. The pale pink fruit is completed by a glittery gold stem and a green glass leaf, a cheerful pop of colour set against the foliage of a fir tree. The frosted surface creates a subtle sparkle in the reflection of your Christmas lights; a nod to Victorian ornaments, which were often made using crushed glass for a frosty winter look.
The tradition of decorating an indoor tree stems from the Victorian era, rising in popularity following the publication of an engraving showing Queen Victoria and her family gathered around the tree at Windsor Castle. Victorian trees were customarily decorated with dried fruit, nuts and strings of cranberries; blown glass decorations in the shape of fruit became popular towards the end of the 19th century, imported from Germany.
