Place a perfectly plump pear amongst the foliage of your tree with this delightful glass decoration. The pale gold pear is topped with a glittery fabric leaf. Inspired by Victorian ornaments, which were often encrusted with crushed glass for a twinkling finish, the ornament has a frosted surface ready to sparkle in the reflected light.
The tradition of decorating an indoor tree stems from the Victorian era, rising in popularity following the publication of an engraving showing Queen Victoria and her family gathered around the tree at Windsor Castle. Victorian trees were customarily decorated with dried fruit, nuts and strings of cranberries; blown glass decorations in the shape of fruit became popular towards the end of the 19th century, imported from Germany.
