A resplendent pheasant in all his finery will cut a splendid dash strolling through the foliage of your Christmas tree. The traditional motif has been reimagined exclusively for the V&A, with beaded wings, a golden breast and colourful embroidered details, and features the V&A logo embroidered on the satin back.
The decoration is made using the traditional method of zardozi embroidery, zar meaning gold and dozi meaning sewing; the ornate craft of hand embroidery with metallic threads originated in Persia, reaching India in the 12th century, and is still practised across the subcontinent.
St. Nicolas is a small London-based brand dedicated to designing original, interesting and meaningful keepsakes. The company has worked with a family-run business in Northern India since 1999, creating Fair Trade decorations using the ancient zardozi embroidery technique.
