French photographer, writer and activist Claude Cahun created political and personal work, often playing with concepts of gender and sexuality. Aveux non Avenus, translated as Disavowed Confessions, is an illustrated autobiographical essay published in 1930 that served as a critique of the concept of autobiography and of wider cultural conservatism in France.
Prints of the photomontages included in Aveux non Avenus are held in the V&A collection.
