The crescent moon and five-pointed star of the Ottoman flag are reimagined as monumental architecture in this exquisitely ornate print. The architectural drawing depicting plans for a tomb in Istanbul was created by Sopon Bezirdjian between 1850 and 1900. The annotated ground plan in pen and watercolour is adorned with exquisite floral motifs, an irresistible example of Ottoman ornament.
Sopon Bezirdjian was born in Constantinople in 1839 to an Armenian family. He collaborated with royal architects to create decorative schemes for Ottoman palaces before moving to Victorian Britain, where he worked as a designer in Manchester. Here he published a pattern book presenting his expertise in Eastern decoration, and designed two monumental pavilions for the Paris Exposition of 1900.
Printed in the UK, this generously sized work will make an elegant addition to your interior décor, with its appealing geometry and calming colour palette. Giclée printing captures fine detail and provides archival longevity, while the quality heavyweight paper holds rich, deep colours and gives a luxury, gallery-grade finish.
