Perfect for sketches, designs, notes and ideas, this pocket-sized notebook features a striking sunburst shining at the centre of its cover, surrounded by a repeated pattern of carnations.
Created as a cushion cover in Bursa, Turkey, in the late 17th century, the enchanting textile is made of silk velvet, woven with ornate symmetrical designs.
Cushions played an important role in furnishing Ottoman homes, and in the 17th century they became a popular export to Europe. The sun motif was often associated with the Sultan, representing his might illuminating the Earth, while the carnation symbolises the power and renewal of life, due to the flower’s long-lasting bloom.
