The intricate patterns and expert colourwork of a historic Iznik tile are perfectly preserved in this exquisite print. The vibrant painted and glazed tile was created in Iznik in the 1530s for the Çinili hamam, or tiled bathhouse, in Istanbul. The original tile is on display in the Constantinople to Istanbul: One City, Two Empires exhibition.
Iznik pottery refers to glazed ceramics produced primarily in Iznik in Anatolia, a cultural history originating during the reign of the Ottoman Empire. Known for its meticulous underglaze decoration technique and luminous colour palette, Iznik pottery commonly features the signature hues of deep cobalt blue, rich turquoise, emerald green and Armenian bole red.
Printed in the UK and supplied with a white mount, this colourful piece would make a beautiful addition to a dynamic gallery wall. Giclée printing captures fine detail and provides archival longevity, while the quality heavyweight paper holds rich, deep colours and gives a luxury, gallery-grade finish.
