This colourful print depicts three Ottoman sultans in colourful robes, seated beneath a pink arcade, their heads replaced by blooming roses. The striking composition is thought to reflect concern about depicting living beings in Islamic art. The original work can be seen on display in the Constantinople to Istanbul: One City, Two Empires exhibition.
Created as part of a lavishly illustrated manuscript in Istanbul in 1747, the covetable print unites classical form with a contemporary colour palette. The ornate costumes, geometric tiling and decorative arches in vivid hues make this a perfect way to bring colour to a compact space, or a dynamic addition to a gallery wall.
Printed in the UK, the piece is supplied with a purple mount chosen to complement the brilliantly coloured artwork. Giclée printing captures fine detail and provides archival longevity, while the quality heavyweight paper holds rich, deep colours and gives a luxury, gallery-grade finish.
