Revel in the avant-garde extravagance of 1930s Paris with this stunning print featuring a sublime work by Christian Berard, a close friend and collaborator of Schiaparelli’s, for American Vogue. Berard’s illustration is expertly printed on the highest quality paper to create this print exclusively for the V&A and is supplied with a white mount.
The illustration depicts a floating restaurant, or péniche, on the river Seine in Paris; at the centre stands Princess Poniatowska wearing a Schiaparelli jacket. An influencer of her time, Princess Poniatowska was employed by Schiaparelli as a stylish sales assistant: during the week, she worked on the shop floor, and at the weekend, attended society events adorned in the latest Schiaparelli designs.
