Add some Arts and Crafts appeal to your daily look with this endearing bag charm. The famous strawberry thief has taken flight from William Morris’ enduring furnishing fabric design and alighted upon your handbag, reimagined as a bag charm made from recycled leather. The characterful bird is accompanied by a smaller leather tag sporting the V&A logo.
Inspired by the thrushes seen stealing strawberries from the plants in Morris’ Oxfordshire Garden, the Strawberry Thief pattern was created in 1883 and quickly became a favourite with the public, used to make curtains, drape around walls or for loose covers for furniture. Various samples of the design are held in the V&A archive, alongside the intricately carved printing blocks used to reproduce the pattern.
