The coronation of His Majesty King Charles III is an historic day for British history. Mark this momentous occasion with Wedgwood’s striking fine bone china Commemorative Mug. Inspired by Richard Guyatt’s original 1953 design for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, this majestic mug reflects the whimsical ‘Festival of Britain’ style synonymous of the time. His Majesty’s feathery monogram, 'CIIIR', takes centre stage in pale grey and yellow, with the date '2023' below to commemorate the year of his coronation. Featuring a stylised crown flanked by a heraldic lion and unicorn, each fine bone china mug is completed with the words ‘God Save the King’ and 22-carat gold lining hand applied by skilled craftspeople at Wedgwood's factory in Barlaston, England.

About the artist
Richard Guyatt Coronation Mug

Richard Guyatt C.B.E.

British designer and academic Richard Guyatt has been described as “one of the 20th century’s most seminal figures in the world of graphic design”. Best known for his consultancy with Wedgwood, his commemorative mug series includes designs for the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II (1953) (pictured), the Prince of Wales's Investiture (1969), royal weddings such as that of Prince Charles and the Princess of Wales (1981). Guyatt died in 2007, but his uniquely elegant style left a legacy that inspired a new design for the Coronation of King Charles III (2023).
