Values of Design is about how we measure the value of things and – in turn – how values shape the way we design. When the Victoria and Albert Museum opened in 1857 as the world’s first design museum, it aimed to improve the way we make things by celebrating the inherent value of good design.

But what is value exactly? Is it about performance or wonder? Problem-solving or cost? Our values change and so our criteria for assessing design shifts over time. This book invites you to reflect on what matters to you, and how your values impact the world we live in.

Values of Design is the official exhibition catalogue for the V&A Gallery at Design Society in Shenzhen, China.  With essays by Glenn Adamson, Ole Bouman, Sam Jacob, Tim Parsons, Vera Sacchetti, Jana Scholze, Tamar Shafri,  Penny Sparke and Catharine Rossi.
