Innovate: Design for sustainable development with Evans Wadongo photo

Join us to hear from Evans Wadongo: Kenyan engineer, social entrepreneur and sustainable development expert. In this talk, Wadongo will share his work in sustainable development and the design process behind the MwangaBora® solar lamp (Swahili for ‘good light’).

He is the founder of Sustainable Development For All (SDFA), a non-profit social enterprise that has helped lift thousands of mostly rural people out of poverty. At 19, he designed MwangaBora®, the first-ever African designed solar lamp from recycled materials. He is also the co-founder of GreenWize Energy, which is advancing cutting edge African-designed renewable energy products and solutions in Sub Saharan Africa.

MwangaBora® is in the V&A’s permanent collection and will feature in the Design 1900-Now galleries.

This talk will provide inspiration for delivering V&A Innovate and classroom projects focused on the environment and sustainable development.

V&A Innovate is an online resource hub, online teacher CPD programme, and National Schools Challenge for Key Stage 3. Free. Booking essential. Event suitable for Secondary School teachers.
