This two day course will help participants understand the questions that need to be addressed when developing an interpretation strategy for your museum or gallery. You will be given useful tools to help plan and ultimately design a gallery space or display. You will also learn how to write engaging, informative and effective text panels to accompany your objects.

Bryony Shepherd is an interpretation specialist with over ten years’ experience developing and implementing interpretation for a wide range of major cultural and heritage sites. She joined the V&A in May 2015 as Head of Interpretation.

Course overview

The second day of the course will look at key methods to apply when writing gallery text, including identifying your audience and ensuring your message is clear, taking into consideration narrative, tone, structure and hierarchies.
