Pop-Up Performance: Odissi Dance photo
Join dancers from Kala the Arts and take part in an Odissi workshop, and experience the oldest classical Indian dance originating from the east Indian region of Odisha from the temples over two thousand years ago.

Working with Kala Artistic Director Sushmita Pati, a trio of dancers will showcase Tribhang dance choreography, incorporating a narrative inspired by the sculptures on display at the South Asian Gallery.

Tribhang is specially created for this event and brings to life the rich narratives of the ancient sculptures presented through powerful Odissi vocabulary. The choreography is interwoven with music composition by Rohan Roy using a fascinating blend of Western and South Asian music.

Watch a short performance, then have a go as a family! Each workshop is approximately 45 minutes long. Each session will include a 15 minute performance, followed by 30 minutes where participants will take part in an interactive workshop, where they will learn elements of the dance they have just seen. Sessions are free and drop-in, starting at 11:00, 13:00 and 15:00.

This is a families event for adults to take part in with their children; no child can be left unattended. Suitable for ages 5+.
