Lunchtime Lecture: Exhibiting Theatre photo
To celebrate the centenary of the Theatre and Performance Collections at the Victoria and Albert Museum, this lunchtime lecture looks at the importance of the International Theatre Exhibition: Designs and Models for the Modern Stage of 1922 and how it was a catalyst for the V&A’s collecting and exhibiting of stage designs. The exhibition presented the work of 161 designers from 11 countries and revealed how the early twentieth century saw theatre design flourish imaginatively, particularly for drama and dance, under the influence of Adolphe Appia, Edward Gordon Craig and the designers for the Ballets Russes.

Jane Pritchard MBE is Curator of Dance at the Victoria and Albert Museum. She has curated exhibitions on dance, design and photography, most notably Diaghilev and the Golden Age of the Ballets Russes, 1909–1929.
