To reach hyper-connectivity, 5G requires larger and more robust urban infrastructure. While marketers and councils are promoting the upgrade to a faster Internet service the unplanned effects for entire cityscapes have not been fully revealed nor discussed widely. How is the urban environment changing? How should it change? Who and what is being overlooked? This two-day workshop will explore the incorporation of 5G urban infrastructure and the ecologies around them at the intersection of urban aesthetics and techno-social challenges. As a participant, you will have the opportunity to design an alternative cityscape narrative for our collective 5G future.

Requirements: Curiosity for technology and cities and visualisation skills.

Event organised by Dr Delfina Fantini van Ditmar (Royal College of Art), Dr Carolina Ramirez-Figueroa (Royal College of Art), Dr Sanna Lehtinen (Aalto University) and Dr Luis Hernan (Sheffield University).

This event will take place through Zoom.
