Pottery fragments are among some of the most common discoveries in archaeology, offering clues about everyday life and craft traditions.

Join artist Charlie Brookes for this hands-on workshop, where you will take on the role of experimental archaeologists. Explore ceramic fragments from the museum’s collection and use them as inspiration to imagine and reconstruct new forms.

Working with clay and coloured slips, you will design and model your own ceramic vessels and forms inspired by the shapes, textures, and decorative traces found in historic shards. Through guided making and discussion, the workshop will explore the processes of archaeological interpretation, conservation, and traditional pottery production.

Finished pieces will be fired at the museum and available for collection at a later date.

There are 2 workshops on this day:
10:30 - 13:00 for ages 13-17
14:00 - 16:30 for ages 18-26
