Join us for a two-hour introduction to the Risograph printing process with printmaker Sarah Simmonds from Goose Studio. This fun, hands-on workshop is perfect for anyone curious about Riso printing. No prior experience required! During the session, you’ll design and print your own two-colour 2026 mini calendars. There will be a choice of colour combinations to choose from and each family will have an edition of ten calendars to take home, enough to keep, share and gift!
Starting with an introduction to the history of the Risograph process you will explore examples that showcase its vibrant possibilities. You’ll then learn the functions of the machine and develop the practical skills needed to create your own prints.
Using handmade stencils, experimental mark-making, text, and collage techniques, each family will produce a personalised calendar in an edition of 10 (8.5 cm x 20 cm).
We’ll provide a wide selection of magazines and materials for collage, but you’re welcome to bring your own (think old photos, newspaper cuttings, or other flat items suitable for scanning) For best results, choose high-contrast imagery, as the Risograph reads in greyscale.
Come ready to play, experiment, and leave with a colourful set of mini calendars to share or gift!
Sarah Simmonds is an artist printmaker who graduated with an MA in Fine Art Printmaking from the Royal College of Art. She is the founder of Goose Studio, a specialist Screen Print and Risograph workshop based in Faversham, Kent, and Portable Print Studio, a mobile printmaking workshop.
With extensive experience teaching printmaking across arts education, Sarah’s practice and teaching emphasise the meditative possibilities of printmaking — slowing down, thinking in layers, and engaging deeply with process. Celebrating the tactile and analogue, her approach naturally fosters creativity, experimentation, and play.
