When HMT Empire Windrush arrived at Tilbury Dock 75 years ago, on board was Aldwyn 'Lord Kitchener' Roberts: a Calypso artist from Trinidad, who sang “London is the place for me, London this lovely city...” Kitchener, along with other Caribbeans arriving to settle in the UK, went on to shape the multicultural Britain we know today. This Friday Late will celebrate the Windrush generation and their legacy, and confront the continued racism and injustice faced through talks, performances, film and workshops.

From Lovers Rock, Reggae and Dancehall to Soca, Calypso and Steel Pan, the evening will weave through sound system culture, carnival and much more. Join us to mark one of the most important moments in British history, shaping and enriching the country we live in today.
