The Story of Two Chairs

London-based architects Amanda Levete Architects (AL_A) and Carmody Groarke have designed two new chairs for the spaces they have created at the V&A. AL_A conceived of the 8mm chair for the Courtyard Café, part of its scheme for the Exhibition Road Quarter. Carmody Groarke continued to develop its existing Chair 182 for the new Members’ Room on Level 5 of the museum.

This display reveals the often untold story of a project’s design process, showing the chairs at different stages – from initial idea to developed models.
