Based on a pattern designed exclusively for the V&A, this workshop will take you beyond the basics, showing you how to fit, customise and construct your dress. On day one, you will tour the exhibition with the tutors, picking out Quant’s iconic design features and focussing on her use of patterns and stripes. You will then learn how to make any necessary fit adjustments and how to cut out your fabric to achieve your design. On day two, you will construct your dress, using machine and hand sewing techniques, including how to insert a zip, sew a set-in sleeve, work with linings and make a pleated skirt.
A variety of striped fabric will be provided, or feel free to bring your own. All other materials will be provided. This workshop also includes entry to the Mary Quant exhibition.
