Hampstead Walking Tour with Christine Lalumia

This walk will focus on a selection of houses of differing age and appearance, from elegant Regency terrace to Victorian ‘piles’ and Modernist icons. Buildings by twentieth-century architects including Erno Goldfinger and Welles Coates will be considered alongside older ones dating from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. We will also discuss a few of the notable residents of Hampstead including fine artists siblings Richard and Hilda Carline, Paul Nash, Barbara Hepworth and Ben Nicholson, Kate Greenaway and John Constable. Émigrés who lived in Hampstead, such as Walter Gropius, Marcel Breuer and Sigmund Freud, will also be discussed, as will some of the writers and actors who have made this green and visually stimulating corner of London their home.
