Experience a fresh reimagining of Le Train Bleu, the iconic one-act ballet originally staged in 1924.
As you enter the space, you’ll be wowed by a spectacular backdrop: the largest Picasso work in the world and original front cloth of the ballet, a dramatic enlargement of Picasso’s work Deux Femmes Courant sur La Place. 10m tall, it has rarely been seen on public display until the opening of V&A East Storehouse.
Enjoy a playful performance starring nine artists from English National Ballet, in a new version of Le Train Bleu, by Stina Quagebeur, the company’s Associate Choreographer. Full of energy and humour, their dancing captures the spirit of the original ballet and its characters: tennis players, swimmers and tourists on the French Riviera of the 1920s.
The brand-new costumes are inspired by Gabrielle Chanel’s original designs, which timelessly evoke the period. They have been reinterpreted by the English National Ballet Costume Atelier with the kind permission of CHANEL.
This one-of-a-kind tribute breathes new life into the classic ballet. This fresh interpretation honours the legacy of the work’s legendary collaborators whilst celebrating the breathtaking skills of today’s dance talents.
