Through studying objects in the V&A collections at The Clothworkers' Centre and the South Asia gallery at the Museum, Dr Lynn Hulse will introduce you to the history of the exuberant floral patterns found in imported textiles, replicated in embroidered clothing and home furnishings in Early Modern Britain. Using a design created by artist Nicola Jarvis, you will then explore a range of crewel stitches on an exotic botanical motif, working on a pre-printed heavy cotton furnishing fabric with Fine d’Aubusson crewel wools.

Ornamental Embroidery specialises in the teaching and designing of historic hand embroidery, running workshops in museums, art galleries and historic houses.
