The Renoir Girls photo
In the Parisian Salon of 1881, visitors admired two sublime Renoir portraits. They were of the Cahen d’Anvers sisters, the daughters of a Jewish banking dynasty who were patrons, collectors and aesthetes. The girls' mother was a friend of Proust and lover of the art critic, Renoir’s patron, Charles Ephrussi.

Deeply and extensively researched from family members and archives across the world - including the V&A’s own National Art Library - Catherine Ostler’s latest book is a revelatory journey from Paris in the Belle Époque to a Europe, a family and an art collection torn apart by war.

Join her for a discussion of this powerful story of love, courage and identity, as she publishes her highly anticipated new work, already hailed as ‘a revelation’, ‘magnificent’ and ‘beautifully written.’

The talk will be followed by a wine reception, including book sales and signing.
