Join Dr Geoffrey Belknap (Head Curator, National Science and Media Museum) to investigate how different institutions shape the ways in which we think about photographs. How do curatorial practices change the understanding of photographs, their meanings, histories and technologies?

Using the collections of the Science Museum Group and the transfer of the Royal Photographic Society's collection to the V&A as examples, this lecture will raise questions about what is a collection? What is a photographic object? What are the implications for how we understand photographs, their histories and the history of photographic collecting?

The V&A Research Institute is generously supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
