From tea caddies to water jars, this workshop, led by Grand Tea Master Sōshin Kimura of the Hōshinkai Tea School in Kyoto, offers a rare opportunity to learn about and handle a selection of historical and contemporary lacquered tea ware from Master Kimura’s collection. The event also features a demonstration of the traditional tea practice, with matcha and Japanese sweets served to participants.

This event is organised in connection with Urushi Now: Contemporary Japanese Lacquer, a display on 21st-century artistic expressions in lacquer, on view in the V&A’s Toshiba Gallery of Japanese Art from 30 April 2026.
