In Practice: Ribbon Embroidered Trimmings

Learn how to decorate the edge of a neckline or sleeve with a Marie Antoinette Inspired trim.

Using a running stitch, workshop leader Rowena Luke-King will introduce you to the different gathering techniques used in Silk Ribbon Embroidery to make tiny flowers. She will show how to attach the flowers to a gathered strip of fabric; add centres with French Knots and stitch the completed trimming to a garment edge. 

Rowena Luke-King has had a diverse career in design but is mostly known for her printed fabrics and work as a stylist to the music industry. Rowena studied fashion and textiles at Central Saint Martin’s, where she now teaches short courses. Recently awarded an Honorary Degree; Bachelor of Arts in Education by Bath Spa University, she also delivers the V&A Academy’s online course Couture Hand Sewing Techniques: Make A Dress in Quarter Scale.

This session will be held live on Microsoft Teams and will also be recorded. The recording will be emailed to ticket holders after the live event, and will be accessible for 5 days until midnight on Sunday 12 October 2025.
