Young V&A: School visits information

Please note that provision for school groups is available Monday to Friday, during term-time only.

Develop the creative confidence of your class by taking part in school workshops at the Young V&A, led by artists and designers.

These sessions engage students with objects and themes in the Young V&A galleries and equip them with key creative skills that support the national curriculum.

We offer workshops for classes from EYFS – KS3:

Bring your class to the Young V&A on a self-guided visit. You can explore our permanent galleries – Play, Imagine and Design – and visit our temporary exhibition. A 30-minute lunchroom slot is automatically allocated to your group at the time of booking your visit.

All school self-guided visits must be booked online in advance.

Free school exhibition visits are only available during term-time, Mondays to Thursdays. On Fridays, we are only able to support self-guided visits to the permanent galleries.

If you are a teacher hoping to come on a pre-visit to our temporary exhibition to support with your planning, please book a Teacher Ticket. Teacher Tickets can only be booked after your school booking has been confirmed, by calling 020 8983 5200 or emailing the team.

There are two drop-off points for coaches on Cambridge Heath Road, outside Young V&A’s entrance. All drop-off points allow up to 15 minutes waiting time. Coach parking facilities can be found in Whitechapel High Street NCP.

Schools based within the Greater London Area may be eligible for free or discounted travel via public transport. Visit the TfL website for more information.

Please enter the museum via the Main Entrance on Cambridge Heath Road. Please note, the Main Entrance is step-free and wheelchair accessible.

In the interest of visitor safety, our Security team may carry out bag searches at the entrances to the museum.

All groups must check in at The Portal Trust Community Room on the Lower Ground Floor.

Our friendly staff will check your booking details upon arrival. If you are a group leader, please ensure you have a physical print-out of your booking information.

Adult supervision is required at all times at Young V&A.

To enable you and your students to have the best possible – and safest – experience, we advise dividing large groups into smaller sub-groups when moving around the museum.

Please note, students are not permitted in galleries unaccompanied.

All teachers and accompanying adults are responsible for student supervision for the duration of your visit and must remain with the group at all times.

Teachers are the lead supervisor for their group and must ensure that students behave in a way that minimises the likelihood of accidents or damage.

If anyone in your group has any additional access needs and requires assistance, please let us know at the time of booking. This will enable us to best support your group visit.
